Artist Gregory HORNDESKI

is a self-taught painter with an extraordinary background as a Ph.D. mathematician and former university professor. Trading equations for art in the early 1980s, he developed an expressionistic style distinguished by acrylic knife paintings and dynamic poured paint techniques. Horndeski cites Van Gogh, Magritte, and Pollock among his key influences, which inform the bold colors and inventive forms in his work. His paintings have been exhibited across North America and Europe, including shows at the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands and the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. Horndeski’s art is held in numerous museum and university collections, and in 1992 he was commissioned to create a piece presented to former First Lady Rosalynn Carter—a testament to the esteem for his artistic vision.
